The Benefits Strategy Principal Consultant at HealthEquity plays a critical role in helping our clients achieve their benefits program objectives while contributing to long-term account growth. Leveraging robust data insights, deep expertise in health savings accounts (HSAs) and High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP), and a comprehensive understanding of HealthEquity’s offerings, serving as a strategic advisor to employer groups and their leadership teams. This position will collaborate closely with Relationship Executives, Sales, and internal cross-functional teams to build meaningful relationships with key client stakeholders, including decision-makers, benefits leaders, and C-suite executives. This consultative role demands a strong grasp of each client’s unique business priorities and benefits challenges. Success is measured by anticipating needs, provide proactive solutions, and foster long-term client satisfaction and retention through data-driven guidance and personalized support. This role reports to the Practice Leader Strategy Plan Design.

 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Serve as a strategic benefits consultant and trusted advisor to employer clients, helping drive adoption and growth of High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). 
  • Lead and support data-driven consultative engagements in collaboration with HealthEquity’s Enterprise Account Executives (ECRn), Sales (Enterprise and Regional), and Service Delivery Management (ESD) teams to deliver measurable results for clients. 
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with top consultants and thought leaders from HealthEquity’s Top 30 benefits consultancy partners to influence market strategy and improve collaboration. 
  • Analyze client data and industry benchmarks to assess plan performance, identify opportunities, and deliver actionable insights that advance client program goals and elevate employee financial wellness. 
  • Deliver compelling, insight-driven presentations to clients, including C-suite stakeholders—demonstrating the value of HSA adoption, employee engagement strategies, and program optimization. 
  • Partner with Product and Technology teams by sharing market trends, client feedback, and usage patterns that inform innovation and enhance HealthEquity’s competitive positioning. 
  • Actively participate in and support sales pursuits, RFPs, finalist presentations, and strategic account planning efforts to drive new business and expand existing relationships. 
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to internal team members on benchmarking, analytics, and consultative strategies that differentiate HealthEquity in the marketplace. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing leadership to translate insights into impactful client communications, education campaigns, and thought leadership content that promotes program engagement. 
  • Conduct ongoing market and competitive analysis, financial modeling, and trend forecasting to support client strategy development and organizational decision-making. 
  • Drive high client satisfaction and retention by proactively identifying risks and opportunities, solving problems collaboratively, and aligning solutions to each client’s unique goals. 

 

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred (related fields: business, engineering, analytics, finance). 
  • Typically, 8+ years in health benefits including relationship management or client service experience consulting (Senior Consultant to Principal level). 
  • Experience with Consumer Directed Benefits (HSA, FSA, Etc.)
  • High proficiency in analytics, statistics, and financial modeling. 
  • Highly proficient excel skills.
  • SQL experience or familiarity is a plus.
  • Strong project management and client engagement experience, including across global markets. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. 
  • Skilled in facilitating and contributing to business planning sessions, with a focus on evaluating key performance metrics related to health benefits plan utilization and effectiveness. 
  • Bring creative, strategic thinking to client challenges, going beyond traditional approaches to deliver innovative solutions that increase employee understanding and adoption of benefits programs. 
  • Proficient in interpreting plan-level analytics and uncovering drivers behind performance data, using insights to guide strategy and recommend improvements.

Salary Range

$127000.00 To $195000.00 / year
