Overview

How you can make a difference:

The VP Chief of Staff to CEO serves as a force multiplier for the CEO—optimizing time, focus, and strategic impact through a blend of proactive support, organizational awareness, and disciplined execution. By staying close to the CEO’s full remit and connecting the dots across teams, decisions, and conversations, the VP Chief of Staff to CEO brings clarity to complexity, creates space for strategic focus, and strengthens execution across the executive agenda. This role helps reinforce alignment, accountability, and momentum across the leadership team—without adding noise or hierarchy.

This is a highly developmental role that offers deep exposure to executive-level decision-making and business priorities, ideally preparing an individual for a future senior executive role.
This role is meant to broaden the CEO’s capacity—not replace it. You work behind the scenes to make sure every hour, interaction, and executive exchange is connected to strategy, purposeful, and serves as an extension of the CEO—reinforcing his leadership approach and modeling the cultural values we expect across the organization.

Reporting Structure: Report directly to CEO

Work Setting: Onsite role in Draper, UT.  Some travel required for meetings.

What you’ll be doing:

Optimizing CEO’s Time & Strategic Focus

  • Proactive Prioritization: Help the CEO assess and shape time allocation—identifying what’s most strategic or suitable for delegation.
  • Calendar Alignment: Partner with the Executive Assistant to ensure the calendar reflects real priorities—not just requests.
  • Contextual Preparation: Ensure pre-reads and background are available before key conversations.
  • Enhance Teammate Engagement: Facilitate the CEO's active and genuine presence on teammate-facing platforms (e.g., Workvivo, Motivosity), ensuring his activity authentically reflects his commitment and connection to the overall Teammate Experience (TMX).
  • Partner with the CEO to proactively set and continuously refine his strategic agenda, looking 6 months ahead with quarterly reviews.
  • Surface forward-looking insights and issues early—before they escalate.
  • Coordinate CEO engagement across his full remit—from culture to clients to investors—so he shows up prepared and impactful.

Driving Execution & Accountability

  • Track decisions, deliverables, and commitments made in CEO forums.
  • Gently ensure accountability from executives and teams, facilitating their accountability directly to the CEO—without creating friction.
  • Maintain visibility into progress and surface risks or bottlenecks.
  • Review external and internal communications to ensure the CEO’s voice is reflected (without authoring content).

Supporting Strategic Exploration & Influence

  • Support early thinking on influence efforts or strategic ideas.
  • Help the CEO vet and shape emerging priorities that may evolve into future initiatives.
Facilitating Strategic Client & Partner Engagement: The CEO's involvement with key clients, partners, and brokers is highly strategic, focusing on high-level relationship building, vision sharing, and critical problem resolution.
  • Identifying Strategic Engagement Opportunities: Collaborating with revenue and partnership teams to pinpoint essential clients, partners, and brokers where CEO involvement can drive significant value or mitigate risk.
  • Maximize CEO Impact: Prepare CEO with briefs and context for high-stakes meetings, ensuring he is positioned to deliver strategic value and reinforce long-term relationship.
  • Orchestrate High-Value Interactions: Strategically schedule and coordinate CEO participation in key client meetings, industry events, and partner discussions to align with overall business objectives.
  • Ensuring Follow-Through: Track and ensure internal teams act on commitments made by the CEO during external engagements, maintaining the integrity of these critical relationships.
  • Facilitating Feedback Loop: Capturing and synthesizing insights from these interactions to inform the CEO’s strategic decision-making and broader organizational priorities.

Enabling SLT Effectiveness

  • Support all SLT meetings with agenda design and coordination.
  • Co-develop agendas that support business priorities and team effectiveness.
  • Track follow-ups from meetings to ensure nothing is lost.

Optimize Board Engagement

  • Ensure CEO has timely visibility into Board agendas and pre-read materials including committee meetings.
  • Develop and prepare Executive Sessions Board materials in advance to elevate key issues and incorporate CEO perspectives.
  • Track CEO follow-ups and cross-functional prep efforts tied to the Board.

Facilitate Utah Business & Community Leadership:

  • Orchestrate CEO’s Local Presence: Proactively identify and coordinate strategic opportunities for the CEO to engage with key Utah business leaders, political figures, and community initiatives (e.g., Silicon Slopes).
  • Maximize Local Impact: Ensure the CEO is prepared for local engagements, providing context and objectives to maximize his visibility and impact in the community.
  • Facilitate Strategic Connections: Actively facilitate the CEO’s connections within the Utah community to build stronger relationships and enhance HealthEquity’s role as a relevant, leading company.
